The staff were amazing and faultless, but the hotel itself wasn’t what we expected for our anniversary. We booked a room with a balcony and ended up with frosted windows, so no natural daylight came in. When we opened a window, the only view was a huge brick wall. It was extremely disappointing. When we asked about it, we were told the balcony room had a leak and that we’d actually been upgraded. The room was nothing like the advertised pictures, so we felt completely mis-sold and wouldn’t return to this hotel. We’ll keep coming back to Barcelona, though.

The receptionist made us feel welcome, sharing useful tips for getting around and pointing us to some of her favorite restaurants. We could also walk to Paseo Garcia, Guelle Palace, the Apple Store , and Barcelona zoo. The apartment is right by Plaza Catalunya, with a cafe next door that worked well for breakfast. Our room and bathroom were clean, there was a Nespresso machine, and the corridor was bright and decorated with Indian-style mirrors and pictures. The building has elevators.

We stayed five nights, and the apartment fell short of what had been promised. Street noise was constant and unbearable, so sleeping was impossible. The damaged living-room sofa couldn't be used, and the TV still didn't work after we asked for help several times. Although extra towels and toilet paper had been confirmed when we arrived, neither was provided. With five guests, waiting 50 minutes between showers for hot water was unacceptable. The elevator was also partly out of order and could carry only two people at a time.

The location was convenient, with restaurants, a market, shops, and a mall within walking distance. Both apartments were spacious enough for our group of 20, with full kitchens, dishwashers, and washing machines, and we were glad to get in early. But the water heater on the lower floor didn't work, and the outlets in the fourth room were out too. We were away most days and couldn't wait around for maintenance. These problems could have been caught by checking the units before guests arrived.

There was plenty to do just a few blocks from the apartment, with restaurants, shops, and landmarks nearby. Our group of six had a three-bedroom, two-bathroom place with roomy bedrooms, an equipped kitchen, in-unit laundry, and a small balcony overlooking the busy street. Check-in and checkout were easy, and the location worked perfectly for us.
