Hotel Playas de Paguera

The beds were comfortable, breakfast was adequate though nothing special, and the hotel is well placed near the beach and town center. But the rest of the stay was disappointing. At breakfast, staff seemed grumpy and didn’t respond when we greeted them or smiled, even when we tried in Spanish. The cleaning lady was the only friendly staff member we met. When we arrived in the evening, someone from the pub handed us key cards with hardly a word. It felt unwelcoming, and made us wonder if it was a pleasant place to work, even though we’d tried to be friendly. When we checked out, we were told breakfast had to be paid in cash because of a supposed problem with the card system. That felt suspicious and unprofessional. I don’t like being part of tax games, and it added to the impersonal, transactional feel of the stay. We know mass tourism can mean less personal service, but it’s disappointing to feel like just another source of revenue rather than a valued guest. I’d look for somewhere with a more personal approach. Despite the hotel experience, we had a wonderful time in Mallorca, kayaking and snorkelling along the rocky shore and enjoying delicious dinners.

The hotel is in a lovely spot, within walking distance of the beach and restaurants, and the beach just below it is beautiful. You can take bus A11 from the airport, get off at La Romana stop, then walk 500 meters to the hotel. For Palma center, Torà stop is only 100 meters away. It can get incredibly crowded during holiday season, though, and buses that are already full from earlier stops often pass without picking anyone up. Here’s a tip :) Walk 500 meters down to La Romana, where you arrived from the airport, and you can get on an empty bus 10 stops ahead. We were happy with most things, but breakfast was truly excellent. As Turks, we often find European hotel breakfasts lacking, but this one was really good. The options changed daily and included eggs, sweet potatoes, bacon, different cheeses, fruit, juices, milk choices, and coffee. The room was cleaned very well each day, and towels were changed every two days. In a holiday resort, daily towel changes might be better. We also found at least one bug in the room, and it got into our suitcase. Getting rid of it took quite a bit of effort. Pest control should be done more often.

For this price, it was a great hotel. The rooms had all been renovated and looked good in 2018, and someone was always at the desk downstairs. I’ve never had such a good breakfast menu at this price level. I really enjoyed my stay. One thing, don’t book a room with a sea view. All the rooms face the sea at 90°, so you pay extra without getting any real benefit. Best cheap hotel ever.

The rooms looked brand new in 2018, and the staff were super friendly. Breakfast had a fairly big selection, and the hotel is right in the middle of Peguera, which was great. The rooms were well insulated, so you could hardly hear street noise. It was an amazing stay for an incredibly low price.
