Hotel ILUNION Menorca

The entertainment and breakfast were good, and the bar worker from Grenada was the best staff member we encountered. But I had a deeply disappointing stay. We were given a room advertised with a view, only to find a large bush growing into the balcony, with moths living in it. We asked to move and were told to come back the next day. Then we were charged an extra €170. The whole stay cost €1600, and it was absolutely not worth that. It felt like tourists were being ripped off, since I’m sure many Spanish people wouldn’t want to pay that either. Some staff were rude when we complained. I’ve worked in hospitality management myself, and that was not acceptable. Guests have a right to raise complaints and should be treated professionally. The rooms were okay, but the air conditioning unit was on the balcony in every room. In 30-degree heat, it blew hot air on you and made it impossible to relax outside. The manager, or director as they call them in Spain, walked around a lot, but the staff still weren’t great. The €12 cocktails tasted poor and weren’t worth the price. I’d suggest the manager try one. Drinks were overpriced, and ice creams at €4 were badly priced too. With children staying at the hotel, that felt like daylight robbery. Even in the UK, we don’t charge that much. The South American women on reception had no personality, and shouldn’t be working in hotels.

We had everything we needed in the apartment with our toddler, and there was even a small sea view from the shared area, which I hadn’t expected. The restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere, with no one fighting over the buffet. The staff were so friendly, especially the Animators, Jessica and the Cuban guy. We had a lot of fun with them. A great surprise and a lovely stay, I’d come back.

We really enjoyed our stay, and the food was very good with plenty of variety. The chef was helpful with special requests for babies. Staff were kind and helpful too, so it’s a great place for families with kids. The beach takes a bit of a walk to reach, but it’s good exercise. The hotel to airport transfer didn’t work well, especially for baby seats. Apart from that, I’d highly recommend it.

The WiFi was pretty weak at times, and our room had no TV signal, which was difficult now and then for the children. Even so, we had a fantastic stay and would definitely return. The staff were excellent, especially Rafael, who was always attentive and ready to help. The evening entertainment was a real highlight. The Cuban man and Jessica brought so much energy, and our children looked forward to the mini disco and shows every night. They made the experience memorable.
