The central location was definitely the best part of our stay at Hostal Canovas in Cuenca. The rest left me disappointed. We couldn’t get a double room because none were available, so during a busy period we had to book a triple room for two people at almost twice the standard double-room price. The room was spacious enough, but the mattress wasn’t comfortable and every step made the wooden floor creak loudly. There was no sound insulation between rooms, so we could hear conversations and even our neighbours snoring. We had an interior room, which at least kept out street noise, but apparently there’s only one of those per floor. Reception hours were very limited, 10:30-14:00 and then from 17:30. That complicated arriving at 4pm and leaving, since we couldn’t leave our luggage after 2pm. I felt I’d paid hotel prices without hotel-level comfort or service. Booking further ahead may turn up better options in Cuenca. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The room was relatively clean, and the location is convenient for getting around on foot. But I couldn’t sleep at all because the street was extremely noisy, and the wooden floors creaked loudly whenever anyone walked. The mattresses were terrible and left my back in unbearable pain. After two sleepless nights, it was hard to enjoy Cuenca. The hostel is old and there’s practically no reception. I booked urgently for a spontaneous trip, and that was a big mistake. I wanted extra pillows, but the receptionist was never there. I don’t recommend it and won’t return.

The room is a good size, and the receptionist is very friendly. The price is good too, but the beds are much too hard, and I didn’t find the pillow or mattress comfortable. If you’re a couple, ask for a double bed, since the single beds feel cramped and leave you unable to sit close together. We requested one through Booking.com but got no reply. It also gets a bit cold when they turn the heating off at night. I’d change the beds and have the heating come on at night instead of during the day.

There’s a lot of motorcycle noise at night, even though we were there for a weekend with a child and found the place itself fine. The location is unbeatable. I’d recommend it if you’re looking to explore the city 🙂

We spent the whole night hearing people shout, along with motorcycles and cars. It carried on into the next day as people came back from partying, and honestly it was unbearable. You can hear straight through the walls between rooms too. My neighbours were on a video call, and we could hear the person on the other end. There’s a vending machine on the sidewalk right by the door. I’m mentioning all this because I wish I’d known before booking. We’re not people who complain about everything, but these are things that could be fixed and guests should be told about them.
