I slept like a rose in the good bed, and loved the clean room, kitchen, bathrooms and free breakfast. There are quite a few bathrooms, which was handy. The staff were friendly and helpful too. It's right in the heart of the city, in a beautiful building. They should rename it “excellenthouse”.

We arrived around 12:30 PM, half an hour before the official check-in time. I knew the room might not be ready and had asked in advance if we could leave our suitcase. The host said reception opened at 2:00 PM and that he'd try to get the room ready sooner. He was polite, so I agreed to wait on a bench outside. I wasn't insisting on early check-in, but we weren't given the entrance code while we waited. I tried contacting the host at 1:30, 1:40 and 1:45 PM without a reply. At 1:56 PM, I said I'd have to contact Booking.com customer support if we couldn't get into the property by 2:00 PM. Right after that, the host sent the code. It worked normally; once inside, a man opened the door for us. I explained that we had a reservation and started speaking in English. He rudely demanded that I speak only Spanish. I understand Spanish, but English was easier for me at that moment, which I explained politely. He refused to continue, kept insisting on Spanish and then deliberately ignored me before calling the host on speakerphone. The host shouted at me on that call, made extremely rude remarks and said he didn't want us staying at his hotel. I stayed calm and tried to explain what had happened. The receptionist opened the door and gestured for us to leave, while the host repeatedly said over the phone he didn't want to see us and threatened several times to call the police and have us “put in jail.” I said our two-night stay was fully paid and that we were lawful guests with a valid booking, so we weren't going to leave. The host also warned that things would get worse for me if I contacted Booking.com and that nobody would help. When I messaged him that we'd been denied access to the hotel, he falsely claimed I'd “broken into” the building and “illegally entered” the property. That isn't what happened. The host gave us the code directly, and a staff member opened the door. We entered openly and peacefully, without obstruction. Any claim that I entered unlawfully is completely inaccurate. In later messages, the host blamed me for the incident, said he'd use his “legal connections” to put pressure on me, and claimed his employee had acted “perfectly professionally.” I don't think that was true. He also threatened to take me to court, alleging I'd behaved disrespectfully toward the employee. I have audio recordings of the conversations, including the host's and employee's rude and inappropriate behavior, that support my account.

Alfonso found my lost work key, got in touch and then mailed it to me in Germany. That sealed a five-star review for me. Some reviews come from very enthusiastic people, some from bots, and some are simply earned like this one. The place has affordable prices, a great location and very nice staff, especially Alfonso. Hard to go wrong here.

We ended up extending our stay because they took such good care of us. We could make small meals, they did our laundry and offered help with everything. Gracias Alfonso y a todas las chicas con sus sonrisas y buen trato. Regresaremos.

Free breakfast is only okay, though there's plenty of coffee at no cost. It's a good deal for the price, and there's a really nice living room to relax in. The sleeping room has lots of chargers, but the shower and bathroom lights were broken.
