Hostal El Pilar

The location is great, and having staff available 24 hours was a real plus. We also appreciated getting a private room with its own bathroom and shower, and the shower had hot water. But there were three of us in a very small room, and both the room and service felt poor for what we paid. They should at least have a shared kitchen area with a microwave.

This place is a disaster. It's on the fifth floor, door 5, at Calle Carretas 13. Avoid this Air BnB hosted by Andre y Lilii.

The room was clean, the hosts were kind, and the other people staying there seemed perfectly normal. The location is really good, though the busy square means you can hear people passing outside, even at night. No cars, just people. We were exhausted and slept fine, but the noise could bother someone. The beds are short and narrow, about 1.85 m by 1.40 m, so the double bed felt tiny for two men. The bathroom was worn down but clean and usable, and the bathtub was unbelievably small.

The staff were great and the location is amazing, with everything close by. The room wasn't completely clean, and you can hear a lot of noise, but it was still a good hostel in the heart of Madrid. I'd stay here again.
