Hostal MH Fuencarral

The location is genuinely good, with a view over Gran Vía. That was the one bright spot. We booked MH Fuencarral after reading reviews calling it clean and well located, but our room was dirty when we arrived. The sheets were dirty too, and the towels smelled strongly of smoke. There was a lingering smoke smell throughout the building, which we were told followed a recent fire on one floor. After we complained several times, they only offered to move us three days later. The new room also had dirty sheets. Reception said they couldn't change them because the cleaning staff had finished their shift. At first, the property offered to refund just one night, even though two nights remained, saying we had taken possession of the new room. Booking couldn't reach the property over the weekend because complaints and administrative issues weren't handled on holidays. With help from Booking's customer service, we checked out early and got a refund for the remaining two nights. I don't recommend staying here.
