Hostal Palacio Luna

We had a decent, clean standard room with two beds and air conditioning. Cleaning was around 11, but they were flexible. Check-in ended at 20:00, so arriving 20 minutes late caused a bit of a hassle. We got into the building, which needs a key, because luckily some neighbours had the direct number and sorted it out.

The price, location, and cleanliness were great, but I wouldn't stay here again. We chose a courtyard-view room hoping to avoid street noise, but the courtyard is so narrow that you look straight into other rooms and can talk to people there at a normal volume. People were around and talking loudly past midnight every night. The walls are thin, so we heard everything from the neighbours, even their bathroom fan. Our room had just one window facing the dark courtyard, which made it feel gloomy, and the mattress sagged badly in the middle. The double-pane glass didn't keep the noise out. I don't know whether the street-view rooms are as loud, but at least they'd be brighter. Next time I'm in Madrid, I'll stay somewhere else.

The room was spotless and looked recently modernised, with a lovely shower and a comfortable bed. Bars and places to eat are very close, and the location and value are great. It can be tricky to find, but it's well worth it. I'd definitely recommend it.

The location is nice and so is the receptionist, but the hot water only lasts for one person in the shower. The next person gets cold water. The sheets had stains too. Reception is only available from 10:30am, so you can't ask for help outside those hours.
