Minty Stay 1BD - Lavapies

The neighborhood outside felt sketchy, and our room wasn't very clean. I wouldn't recommend staying here, and I wouldn't come back.

The room was awful: dark, without AC, and with only a little table fan. The bathroom was in rough shape, with bugs crawling around. We had a terrible experience at Hotel Lavapies in Madrid over Easter weekend. We arrived Friday afternoon after paying six weeks in advance, but staff claimed the payment hadn't gone through and said they'd assumed we weren't coming, so they'd canceled our reservation without asking. They said it was a busy holy weekend and wanted us to pay $300 E more to stay. We eventually got our money back by calling our bank, and told the hotel we'd recover the money through travel insurance. If you want a good Madrid vacation, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Room 15 was awful. There was a dead cockroach when I arrived, and the janitor didn't clean anything. I saw spiders, bugs, and mold everywhere. The Wi-Fi didn't work, service was bad, and the TV was tiny. The bathroom was so cramped I banged my head, and there was nowhere to put my things. The janitor kept talking and singing instead of cleaning. This hotel is dangerous, don't stay here.

It was noisy all night, with people banging and shouting outside my room, including the receptionist. The luggage room just outside seemed to double as a hangout spot, and there was so little respect for other guests. As a woman traveling alone, I especially wouldn't recommend this place. I refused to shower because the bathroom was disgusting. Dust was everywhere, and the pillow was barely usable, some homemade foam at best. The headboard wasn't attached to the bed and kept banging around. I later learned there had been many complaints, but it seems the owners have paid no attention. They show no pride or care, and seem to prey on vulnerable people while charging prices that can't be justified. This place was terrible and wasn't cheap.
