I paid double what this place should cost, and left feeling completely ripped off. At checkout, the woman at reception didn’t even ask how the stay had gone. A man at the desk did help by washing and drying our clothes for €10, which was the one good thing. I also saw other reviews and couldn’t help wondering if they were fake. I won’t come back. Sleep was terrible. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable, with only one pillow each, and I never managed more than a few hours a night. You could hear everything in the hall, including a baby screaming loudly for most of the morning. The advertised air conditioning never came on, and there was no way for us to control it, so I was sweating every night trying to fall asleep. The bathroom was filthy, with mold on the shower door, walls and floor, and someone had left a razor from a previous guest. We weren’t allowed to put toilet paper in the toilet, so every morning I had to find a café to use before coming back to shower. I wasn’t going to put used paper in the bin and make the room smell like feces. This was not what I paid for or what was advertised.

The location on Gran Via is excellent, close to shops, restaurants and theaters. Although the street is busy, outside noise didn’t bother me. The reception staff were friendly and courteous, and the hostel felt safe. Access is through a building entrance, then you take the elevator up. I stayed at MuchoMadrid from November 14th to16th, 2024, in a room with a private bathroom. They clean the room and change the sheets and towels every three days. The bathroom is small but useful, and the shower has hot water. There’s no safe in the room, and reception doesn’t offer one either. The beds and pillows were good, though they could be better for a perfect night’s sleep. I’d recommend MuchoMadrid to someone looking to enjoy city life from a central base.

The air conditioning handled Spainish summer heat above 35°C really well. I stayed in a four-bed room, and the bed was comfortable. The lockers were a good size, and the key was provided at no extra charge. The bathroom facilities were adequate. Laundry service, wash and dry, is available for 10euro. Great spot right on Gran Via.

The bathrooms are outside the rooms, but they were clean. Rooms were also clean, cozy and quiet, and the location is right in the city center on the main street. Breakfast was fairly basic, French style, with sweet cake, toast, juice and fruit. There’s a kitchen where you can prepare something.

The location on Madrid’s Gran Via is the big draw, with two handy metro stations just steps away. You also get a balcony view of the avenue and the crowd leaving the Lion King musical. That crowd means some noise after 10 p.m. Still, this is mostly somewhere to come back and sleep. There isn’t much of a social atmosphere or a spacious common room to meet other travellers. It feels like an apartment divided into sleeping rooms. The kitchen is narrow and small, and the bar stools are so uncomfortable and pointless that I’d rather stand to eat breakfast. Don’t expect much from breakfast either. The pictures felt a little misleading, but it’s not a bad hostel, and being on Gran Via makes it decent value.
