Hostal Oporto

A very modest hotel, good enough if you're on a budget. What you get matches the price, so the negative reviews seem like they may come from people expecting a red carpet for 40 euros a night. It's in a beautiful building and the location is excellent. The walls let through all the noise, so bring earplugs. Otherwise, I'd recommend it.

The hostal was clean and reasonably priced. It's a 5-10 minute walk to the metro, so not that close. Our flight was delayed, but a very nice, helpful staff member waited until 11:30 p.m. to check us in.

The location was the only thing that made this place worthwhile, and the price wasn't worth it. I expected a small room, but at 180 cm tall I had to sleep with my legs folded because the bed was too short. The mattress was awful, with every spring poking into my back. The walls were paper thin, the toilet ceiling was crumbling, and my door was missing its number sign. On the service side, the receptionist, bless her soul, knew only one or two words of English and wasn't helpful at all. A 2 star hostel still has to provide decent service and maintenance. Every 5€ hostel I stayed in on the Camino was better.
