Petit Palace Preciados

The service was good, and breakfast was nice. The hotel is centrally located, but I thought it was overpriced. The rooms also seemed smaller than they looked in the Booking photos, and the beds weren't especially comfortable.

I don't regret staying here. It's a nice hotel in central Madrid, with distinctive interiors and affordable rooms that have balconies. Just be prepared for the room to be smaller than pictures on Agoda, Booking.com, or Klook might suggest. Cars and taxis also have a hard time getting onto the hotel's street, so hauling a lot of luggage there can be a hassle.

I booked at another Petit Hotel in Madrid, and trying to understand the cancellation policy turned into a mess. The website's terms are vague and minimal. After I asked whether my reservation could be refunded, they charged the full amount even though my stay isn't until August. Their own terms say they can charge you if you cancel or don't show up. It took 18 emails to get an explanation that made sense, and I still think this hotel group is poorly run. Save yourself the headache and book elsewhere.

We loved being able to walk to Gran Via or Puerta del Sol in minutes. The hotel sits in a pedestrian shopping area with lots of nearby cafes and restaurants. Breakfast had plenty of healthy choices, fresh squeezed juices, fruit, yogurt with toppings, as well as eggs, meats, and cheeses. The staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed two nights and paid extra for a balcony room, which was worth it. The room was small, but the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom a decent size, and the shower great. It was very clean overall, although it smelled musty when we arrived and several charging ports didn't work. The balcony windows kept out outside noise really well, but loud banging inside the building went on through the night and disturbed our sleep. Not sure if it was the elevator or something else. The hallway furniture looks like it may have been there since the 1980s and needs an upgrade.
