This is a scam. The room was a dirty, tiny hellhole, worse than a prison cell.

For what this place offers, I wouldn’t pay even 10 euros. I’ve stayed in lots of hostels, and they’ve all had at least a basic level of quality. This one should be shut down. I’d seriously suggest the hostels right next door, like Hostal Cervantes. If you stay at Sudamericana, you won’t sleep a wink. The floorboards creak, so you wake whenever someone goes to the bathroom. The foam mattresses are uncomfortable, there aren’t even mirrors in the bathroom for shaving, and the windows don’t close properly. Traffic from Paseo del Prado comes straight through, with motorcycles and cars going over 100 km/h. It’s unbearable. They even charge for bed linens. How shameless!
