The team made this five-night stay at The Principal especially good. Rafael, the Guest Experience Manager, was incredibly hospitable, and Venancio from the Security team helped us feel well looked after. The location is unbeatable, and the rooms are sleek, very modern, and impressively clean. Couldn’t be happier with the stay. If you want luxury with a personal touch, stay here.

Breakfast in the dining room was lovely, though it costs extra. Bottled water is offered free in the lower lobby, among some rather harsh-looking paintings. The rooms are spacious and have nice in-room amenities. It’s a beautiful hotel in a historic building, with helpful staff and a great, walkable location in Madrid.

Leticia and the rest of the staff were warm and attentive, and the breakfast was delicious. The bar also served some of the best cocktails in Madrid. Stylish and welcoming, with a spot right in the heart of the city. We had an incredible stay from start to finish. Highly recommend!

The Principal is in a great central spot, which is why we chose it for our first visit to Madrid. Getting to reception is a bit unusual: there’s a flight of stairs at the entrance, then the doorman takes your details and sends you in a small lift to the sixth floor. Reception sits between the restaurant and bar, both of which look lovely. Unfortunately, most of the staff didn’t seem very interested in customer service. We had bathrobes go missing and then disappear, sinks that leaked, and I ended up fixing one myself. The number of coffee pods replaced varied, and the mineral water wasn’t replenished. Worse, once it seemed to have been topped up from the bathroom sink, since we could smell chlorine. When we raised problems with reception, they usually showed little interest. It’s a shame, because more care could make The Principal great. Right now, it feels like a five-star hotel with three-star service.

We were close to everything, which made it easy to enjoy Madrid. The room was beautifully designed, well maintained, and had updates that made it a comfortable retreat after exploring the city. The hotel was clean from the moment we arrived, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They even surprised my husband with a birthday celebration we hadn’t asked for. It was a lovely, thoughtful gesture. The Principal Hotel exceeded my expectations, and I’d happily recommend it for a special occasion or a visit to Madrid. We’ll definitely return.
