Hotel Las Calas

The rooms were clean and had nice balconies at this cute hotel right beside the beach. Everyone working there was super friendly. Only one person spoke English, but the others made a real effort to speak Spanish slowly and clearly, repeating things when needed so those of us with only a little Spanish could understand.

We had a great week at this quaint little family run hotel, close to both the beach and town centre. The rooms are basic but above average, very clean, air conditioned, and have ensuite bathrooms. Some have beach views. Breakfast is a generous buffet with plenty to choose from, especially the lovely sweet baked tarts and cakes. WiFi is available, and mobile coverage on 3G/4G was good. The staff are wonderful, helpful and chatty in Spanish. There’s free parking by the beach, and the hotel is near the trail over the hills to the other beach as well as the town centre.

The included breakfast is generous, with espresso, homemade cakes and jams, sliced meat and cheese, yoghurt, muesli, several kinds of bread, fresh tomatoes and garlic, and plenty more. The rooms have thick cotton bath sheets, comfortable beds, lots of storage, toiletries, and magnificent ocean views. The family run hotel also owns the excellent beachside restaurant diagonally across the road, between the hotel and beach, and they put a lot of effort into making guests feel satisfied. It’s rated two stars, but felt like four plus to me. There’s no pool, and Spanish is generally the language spoken, but the sea is about 20 metres away and translation apps are easy to use, so neither bothered me. Have a G&T on the terrace at sunset and listen to the waves while the stress fades. Take someone precious to you.

A simple, lovely B&B right in front of the beach. In the morning there’s homemade breakfast cake and coffee waiting for you. Wonderful.
