Alua Leo Hotel

I had a peaceful weekend in one of the nicest hotels I’ve visited in a long time. My room had a balcony with sunbeds, which was great. It was originally £146, but the price was cut by 50%, so I paid £88. A day later, I got an email from what I believe was the owner, offering a room upgrade for €22 = £19.09 and two half-board meals for €30 = £26.03. It might sound like a lot, but going for it was absolutely the right call. They even included complimentary water and slippers 😂 To the owner, if you see this, I’m definitely coming back. Flights were £50, and for me FastTrack plus two seats brought the total to £90 + £141.66, so about £240 altogether. Definitely cheaper than a Jet2 Holiday ✈️

The location is more than ideal, the hotel is bright, and the cost was fair. We also encountered plenty of friendly, helpful staff, though some workers came across as aloof or dismissive. We loved our time in Mallorca, but the hotel didn’t work for us, and we would’ve liked a much more comfortable, welcoming stay. Check-in was very frustrating. Months earlier, my fiancé had moved our stay by a day, and the hotel had confirmed the change. We had proof in an email, but staff still couldn’t find the reservation. After 45 minutes, they said we were “very lucky” to have a room. We’d booked and paid correctly, and the error wasn’t ours, so being told we should feel lucky was upsetting. The delay made us miss our evening plans. The room hadn’t been fully cleaned. There was hair around the shower drain and residue on the glasses by the sink, though the rest seemed fine. At first, there was a slight sewage smell. It grew stronger each day, and by our last night I didn’t feel comfortable breathing through my nose. Because check-in had already been so difficult, we didn’t feel comfortable raising it with staff and decided to put up with it since the price seemed fair. We paid 45 euros for dinner as part of our room package. We could accept that price, but the food was cold and nearly flavorless. We thought it might just have been a bad dinner, then my fiancé and I both woke up feeling sick the next morning. Since we’d eaten the same food at the same time, we suspected something we ate hadn’t agreed with us. It was especially unfortunate with an 11-hour flight home that day. We felt sick to our stomachs that day and for two days after. Maybe our review is an outlier and we were just unlucky. There were positives, but overall the experience fell short.

Getting to the seafront was easy through the gate at the back, just about 100m away, and the hotel is on the main bus route into Palma. We booked Alua Leo for a five-night break because it was close to the airport. Our pool-view room, number 351, also had a sea view, and we were over the moon with it. The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast had a brilliant choice. We bought quite a few cocktails from the bar, and they were lovely and very strong. I’d definitely recommend the hotel.

The rooms were nothing like the photos. There was a dirty shower area, broken cupboards, and a broken lock whose sensor worked only one out of four swipes. The shower handle was so gross I didn’t even want to touch it. The condition and quality didn’t match the advertised pictures or description, and it’s hard to believe this is a four-star hotel. Before booking, the hotel clearly confirmed that we could share one room with our child. Once we arrived, they changed their position and made us book two rooms. That caused a lot of stress and inconvenience while traveling with a baby. The front desk attitude made it worse. I honestly don’t know how the reception staff sleep at night after doing this to families. The person there seemed to enjoy the situation, as if it was routine.
