MLL Caribbean Bay Hotel

The food was awful, and we ended up going out every day because we couldn’t bring ourselves to eat it. The all-inclusive deal was a bad idea: the bars were always closed, there were no drinks available, and alcohol was limited to three half-pint glasses per meal. You couldn’t take those glasses out of the restaurant. The pool bar was closed all the time, and they wouldn’t even give us soft drinks. They also demanded a one euro deposit for a cup about the size of a half pint. Staff were rude and unhelpful throughout. The room was average, with two single beds pushed together that easily slid apart, so good luck if you’re a couple. It’s a run-down dump with terrible facilities and food, and staff who shouldn’t be in customer service. Worst hotel I’ve experienced. If there were a rating below one star, this war zone would get it. Avoid.

The room was spacious, with a beautiful sea view and comfortable beds, though the bathroom could use a bit of a makeover. The location was perfect for the beach and exploring. Buffet dishes were always hot, if a little repetitive. We stayed nearly two weeks and the staff were amazing and so friendly. They cleaned the room when we wanted, changed towels, and the lovely cleaners would check if we needed anything even when we’d skipped a clean. Reception staff were helpful too. My one annoyance was having to leave a €1 coin deposit for a glass to get a drink by the pool, since paper cups were only for hot drinks.

The staff looked after us well. They were friendly and helpful, and the food was nicely presented. The only downside was that the hotel was a bit hard to find without sat-nav. I’d potentially go back.

The downstairs pool was lovely, and the upstairs one has beautiful panoramic views but no amenities. Pool and buffet staff were lovely, the shower was strong, reception was clean, and the reception team were helpful. That’s where the positives stop. The hotel badly needs a remodel. Rooms were small and the bathrooms tiny, so you had to straddle the toilet to shut the door. The bath was missing enamel. Cleaning was very poor: no towels in the room on the first day, bed clothes weren’t changed for 8 days, and after the bed was made, the top sheets were taken away and not replaced. Toilet roll wasn’t replaced and floors weren’t cleaned during our stay. For all-inclusive drinks, the tiny glasses felt like cheating. One guest who wasn’t all inclusive was told she couldn’t get cold water from the drinks machine. That was very disappointing; water is a basic human right. There was no fridge in the room, which is a problem for people who need to keep medication cold.
