Can Solaies

The room was reasonably spacious and nice, but the details let the place down. We found only one coffee pod in the room, though there were more downstairs at the breakfast bar, and there weren’t any individual bath products. The shower had a wall-mounted pump with gel, and that was it. The breakfast wasn’t great either. There was muesli, dried fruit and nuts, a quartered pain au chocolat, cheese, and ham, but no fresh fruit, which felt poor. We’d read reviews praising breakfast, so we were disappointed. It felt as though they may have decided there wasn’t much point putting in effort for a single room. We won’t be back. There are only four rooms, and reception is a box with a combination lock for the entry key. That setup was fine, but the welcome note said there were four restaurants nearby. Two were marked as temporarily closed, and the other two were closed on Tuesday, the night we stayed. A call to let us know would have helped. We wandered around and found one of the restaurants open, so calling to check would have been easy. The room itself had potential, but was missing these small touches.

The lovely Catalina looked after us very well, and breakfast was generous and healthy. The omelette was lovely, and if they had fresh fruit from their gardens or farms, they brought some in for us to try. We stayed in a huge room with a massive bed, its own hot tub, air conditioning, a big TV, and a small fridge stocked with drinks and water for a charge. There was plenty of hot water, too. It’s an old house with only four bedrooms, a roof terrace, and an enclosed garden dining area for breakfast. The decor is eclectic and practical, sumptuous but unassuming. You let yourself in and out. We were blown away by how simple yet classy the hotel felt in the sleepy town of Sant Llorence Des Cardassar. Well worth it.

The room was spacious and very clean, and the bed and jacuzzi both looked and felt amazing. I missed the food, so I can’t comment on it. The fridge was empty except for water, and I was surprised that morning coffee cost €5 a cup. My main problem was arriving by car at 11:30 PM on a Saturday. There was no parking, and the one-way streets felt like a maze. At one point, a group of people over 80, who seemed drunk, hit my car with a walking stick while I’d stopped to figure out which turn I was allowed to take. It caused light damage. There was also a pub across the road open until maybe 2 or 4 AM, and it was very loud. I heard people screaming in the street well after 3 or 4 AM. I’d suggest eating outside town since nearby options are expensive, taking a taxi to the hotel, staying one night, and avoiding weekends. The room is lovely and worth a night if you want a change of scenery. But after a parking ticket and vandalism, I honestly felt the town didn’t care about tourism, though it may be somewhere locals go to relax. It was an experience, but I have no interest in visiting again.

Such a lovely place, cared for so thoughtfully and made with heart. You can tell the difference in the little details. I’ll definitely come back.
