The setting is what made our stay: mountains, meadows, narrow lanes and vultures overhead, with a real rural feel despite Oviedo being only about 15 km away, or a 20-minute drive. We spent four days in May and had the place mostly to ourselves, so it was wonderfully quiet. We were in Madrid, the smallest of the seven apartments. It suited the two of us well, with one bedroom, a comfortable bathroom, and a living room with a sitting area, a table for two and a kitchen. The double bed wasn't especially large. The place was tastefully decorated, and our little terrace had a table and chairs. The heating worked fine, which we still needed in May. The welcome was very friendly. As explained beforehand, they only speak Spanish, and although we don't, we managed as best we could. There’s a good, reasonably priced restaurant five minutes away by car. A little farther along, the village shop has what you need, including a butcher and cheese counter, plus fresh fish on certain days. We’d recommend Apartamentos Rurales Las Vegas de Cardeo, especially outside peak season, when the prices are attractive.
