Sol Port Soller

The patio out front was a highlight for me. I stayed in one of the smaller rooms, which was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good, and the price felt like good value.

The location near the main boardwalk was good, but we left town early because the room and price left us feeling ripped off. At 170€ a night, nearly $200 USD, I expected more than an incredibly narrow room, about 8 ft wide, that looked nothing like the advertised photos. It put a damper on our visit to Port de Soller. This felt like a hostel I might have paid 20€ a night for in my twenties. My mom and I had to climb over the bed or squeeze face-first past the curtains to reach the restroom. She tripped at least once. With that layout and two flights of stairs to the room, I’d consider the place inaccessible to anyone with any mobility or balance impairment. There was hardly any surface space, so our suitcases had to sit on the little floor space available. Arrival was confusing, with limited reception staff and a lock box involved. We entered a small room with closed doors and couldn’t find the box, so we went upstairs. A pleasant housekeeper gave us a key after photographing our passports on her phone, which made me uncomfortable. I still don’t know how she knew which room we’d booked. The public parking across the street was also difficult when we arrived. We had to wait for a space and work out the payment machines to pay 7.5€. That part wasn’t the hostel’s fault.

The car park across the road was decent, and it’s a short walk to the port. Those were the only positives for us. We paid €178 per night, booked directly with the hostel, and felt ripped off. Room 125 was tiny, with mould in the bathroom. There’s no lift, so you have to haul your suitcases up the stairs. Breakfast was barely adequate, even offering cheap branded yogurts, and staff had little to say when they were around.

The hotel was pleasant otherwise, with friendly staff and a simple but good continental breakfast. We’d consider booking again, but only if we could get a different room. I wish the hotel made the room type clearer at booking: the photos show the best rooms, but you might get a very small one or, as I’ve seen in reviews, one without a window. Our room, 125, was extremely small. There was almost no room to get past the bed to reach the bathroom, and nowhere to put our clothes or luggage. Nearby public parking took 45 minutes to get a space on our first day in mid-September. It seemed full from late morning until early evening, though we had no trouble at other times.
