The owner was very attentive when we raised things, and beach towels were available, which was a nice touch. The place is old but well kept, with the kitchen, bathroom, and little room between them renovated. Its layout is unusual, perhaps more suited to a century ago, but it works. Every room has a ceiling fan with a remote, a real help on hot nights. We did miss basic kitchen items, like a pan lid, salt, and paper towels. With COVID around, we weren’t keen to use things other people had touched, so having to go downstairs and buy cheap essentials we wouldn’t take home was a nuisance. The pans and stovetop were poorly cleaned, too. We’d have cleaned them ourselves if supplies had been provided. There was only one roll of toilet paper for five of us for several days, which wasn’t enough. The Android TV was completely unresponsive. The owner said it needed an update after the thousands of channels he’d mentioned weren’t working, but that sounded like an excuse to me. It clearly needed formatting or replacing. An antenna cable would have cost very little.

The hosts were really friendly, and the apartment is nice and close to everything. There’s no oven in the kitchen, though, and the heating doesn’t do a great job across the apartment on cold days.

Things like this are what kill a neighborhood, not gentrification.
