Bonanza Addis Hotel

Breakfast was average, neither particularly good nor bad. We also didn’t use the pool because it looked quite dirty from the staircase. The bed was very hard, so it wouldn’t suit anyone with back problems. Housekeeping was unreliable too: the room wasn’t cleaned daily, and we only got fresh towels after calling to ask. We stayed in mid-September. The first room was extremely dirty, with stains, holes in the wall, and pieces of paper stuffed into the air conditioner. We asked to change rooms. The second was better, but still not ideal. My friend’s first room had no hot water, though she was able to switch rooms as well. We’ve traveled a lot in Africa, and this was one of our more disappointing stays. We wouldn’t return. There are plenty of better hotels in the same area for the same price.

The food was really bad, and the restaurant staff need basic lessons in ethics and hospitality. Being near the airport is the one plus. Overall it wasn’t a good experience. Ethiopian airline should be more careful about choosing hotels for overnight stopovers.

The location was excellent, but the service brought the stay down. Staff seemed slow and disengaged, and it took a long time for the food to arrive.

I felt they scammed me because I’m American. Foreigners should watch out, as they may try to charge you extra. Make sure you get a receipt before paying.
