Grand Melanesian Hotel

This is a very dirty hotel, and the staff were rude from the start. When I told Simon there was no hot water in the shower, he responded rudely and nothing was fixed for two days. If I could, I’d rate it 0/5 stars. Don’t book here, especially online, since the photos are nothing like the actual place.

The pool area was unpleasant, just a couple of metres from a dirty parking lot with nowhere comfortable to sit. The slide had been taped off because it was out of repair. The elevator wasn’t working either. Breakfast was included, but it was only toast and baked beans. On the second day they added some strange cake and watermelon. The coffee was bad, some cheap local brand. We were told eggs cost extra, so we ordered three each. The six eggs cost FDJ$18 and were fried harshly and drenched in vegetable oil. Disgusting from start to finish. The reception was frustrating from the beginning. The receptionist said the shuttle driver was on the way, so we left the air-conditioned restaurant and stood outside in extreme heat so we wouldn’t keep him waiting. After 15 minutes, we called the hotel, and the same receptionist said he was only just leaving. When we arrived, we asked for a quiet room if possible. She agreed, then put us in one on the main street, with windows so corroded with rust that neither would shut. The room looked nothing like the ad photos. I called reception from the room phone, but she didn’t answer, so I had to make a long-distance call from my own phone. Strange that she could answer an outside call but not the room phone. I said the room was disappointing, unlike the photos, and very loud with the rusty windows stuck open. I asked to be moved. She didn’t apologize, but let us switch to a slightly bigger room where the windows closed. I wonder why they put us in the inferior room when a better one in the same class was available. The receptionist seemed purposely passive-aggressive.

This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had, and it ruined my Fiji stay. The airport pickup shuttle was an hour late. On arrival, receptionist Shayaaz was extremely rude and unprofessional. There was no water in the room, the AC barely cooled it, and noisy neighbours made it impossible to rest. Checkout was even worse. Simon seemed intoxicated and was shockingly rude. The airport drop-off was also 30 minutes late.

One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. We had no water, the AC was broken, and staff member Simon was rude. When we complained that the airport drop-off was 30 minutes late, he started shouting at us. Receptionist Shaiyaaz was rude and unhelpful, too. Management should look into this. I can’t recommend the hotel.
