Hôtel Paradou Avignon Sud

The woman at the counter was brilliant, and the rest of the staff were great too. But the rooms feel stuck in the 70s. They were clean, just incredibly dated, with furniture that looked like it belonged at a junk sale. The bathroom had an old folks' home feel. It's somewhere to sleep for one night, but the price is far too high for what you get. It should cost a third less. Breakfast was okay. I needed to stay longer, but I got out and found somewhere else after my one night.

We could relax outside because our room wasn't overlooked, though it was plain and had no fridge. Breakfast had lots of options and was very good. The area of France is lovely, and I'd consider staying here again when I'm back. For the price, it's a decent hotel.

Maurine, I think that was her name, was amazing. She was so helpful and gave excellent customer service. The place was gated and locked at night, which I liked, and the half-board price was great. Still, the restaurant wasn't open for dinner, so we went next door twice and got mediocre food that was just enough to eat. The restaurant's food was very good when it was available, and the pancakes were yummy, but breakfast was really skimpy, maybe because they didn't have enough for everyone. Our room was a decent size and mostly clean, though there were lots of spiders and my husband was bitten more than once. It looked nothing like the photos, at least the room we got. The interior is very dated, and my first impression was “yuck” when I saw the dingy hallway carpet coming up. I would've taken more pictures, but didn't think I should.

The hotel was quiet, clean, and unassuming, with spacious, practical rooms where we slept comfortably. Its location by the airport worked well for us, and we'll come back. Dinner was the disappointing part. The food was fine, just not memorable, and I've had better meals at Best Western hotels in France. I usually manage French menus without trouble, but this one was hard to read. We asked for table water and it never came. The staff hadn't realized we'd paid for dinner or reserved us a table. They sorted that small mix-up quickly, though the disorganization was a bit irritating.
