The property cancelled my booking after I questioned a deposit demand that wasn’t shown in the terms on Booking.com. I’d booked a double room, and the listing said no prepayment would be due until one day before arrival. Four days after I reserved, they asked for 30% upfront, payable within eight days to keep the booking. I contacted Booking.com because I didn’t think they could change those terms; support tried to reach the property, but got no reply. I emailed the property myself to ask why the deposit terms hadn’t been made clear on the listing, and heard nothing there either. The day after that, they told me through Booking.com that my reservation had been cancelled. This was the worst booking experience I’ve had with any property in ten years. I’m shocked they can ignore Booking.com’s terms, and the property didn’t even bother to explain what happened. Their policies feel misleading: the attractive cancellation terms seem to draw people in, then a deposit is demanded after the reservation is made. Completely outrageous. I think Booking.com should stop tolerating this. Be aware they may ask for advance payment without warning and cancel if you don’t comply.

The owners really love this beautiful region and have lots of ideas for things to do. It’s a lovely, peaceful place right by the woods.

I wish I’d tried breakfast earlier in my week at the sculpture workshop. I only had it on the last two days, and Pascal’s salted caramel is incomparable. Fabienne and Pascal gave me such a warm welcome, and the whole stay was a wonderful experience. I’ll be back very soon. The studio is small, but comfortable and properly heated, with a kitchenette for simple meals. The bed is very roomy and the bedding comfortable. The bathroom was pleasant, and the shower stayed nice and hot. It was also great being so close to La Gacilly.
