Les Chalets du Gua des Brasses

We loved our stay here. Our family of four, including two teenage boys, is fairly active, and the clean chalets were perfectly adequate. Calling them basic wouldn't be fair. The big draw is the lake, about a five-minute walk downhill, with a small beach that had a slipway and lifeguard station fitted earlier this year. Nearer Salvetat there are all kinds of lake facilities and cafes, so it's worth exploring early in your stay. Don't miss the Sunday morning get-together on site, though you'll need a bit of French. That's where we met local specialists who arrange lake and mountain activities. We packed in a lot: paddle boarding Monday, rock climbing Tuesday (I chickened out!), kayaking Wednesday, a pedalo Thursday, and cave exploration, or spellologie, with Robert on Friday. Thanks again, Robert. It was a wonderful experience, though not for the faint-hearted. There's plenty to do nearby, and the site is restful with charming staff. Some of what made our holiday special was what the chalets and grounds didn't offer: Wifi was patchy, there were virtually no facilities on site and no nearby shops. At times we had to take the radical step of talking to each other. We even played cards.
