ibis Lyon Gerland Rue Merieux

There were lots of roadworks nearby during our stay. The hotel isn't right by the old town, though it's close enough to get there, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants around. The hotel itself was very nice, and the staff were all pleasant and helpful.

I stayed in December 2023, and the room covered the basics, so it suited a business trip or a short city visit. Breakfast was simple, and the small cafeteria felt crowded once more than 15 people were in it. Getting around was easy, with a tram, bus, and metro stop about a five-minute walk away. There's a Japanese restaurant just across the street for sushi lovers, plus a pizzeria and a few other places to eat nearby.

The location worked perfectly for us, since it was only a short walk.

The fun, modern decor was a nice touch, and the breakfast really impressed us. There was a good range of fresh food, everything was immaculate, and even the tea was so good that we wrote down the brand to look for at home. For the price, it was exceptional. We chose this Ibis because we were in France for the World Cup, had driven up from Marseille, and needed to fly out of Lyon. It was close to the stadium where we planned to watch rugby, just a short walk through what felt like a safe district. We also spotted a nearby metro station in case we needed it. Reception staff were lovely and patient with our limited, but attempted, French. We'd stay at Ibis again and look for this standard.
