Hostel Ambassade Bretonne Vieux-Port

The rooftop bar has an amazing view, and the staff there were probably the friendliest and most amazing workers I've met in the whole country. The location is fantastic, and the general staff were very friendly too. Rooms are a bit small, but at this price that's a more than reasonable tradeoff. The room was clean, and staff did a great job cleaning and restocking towels and toiletries. Highly recommend if you're after a good price with hotel quality.

The location is great, and the rooftop bar has a brilliant atmosphere and a really nice view. The front desk lady was very kind. After checkout, we could leave our bags in storage and pick them up when we headed to the airport. The room was clean but tiny, fine for one night. I might not pick it for a longer stay, though they may have bigger rooms; I didn't check.

The highlight is the rooftop terrace on the 6th floor. Breakfast is served there, and after 6pm it becomes a bar, with stunning views and drinks priced like the local bars. We skipped breakfast because we tend to prefer brunch later, though the choices looked tasty and varied. The hotel is simple but very clean, and a great value in the heart of the old port. It's next to the Petit Train and boat trips, and a Bolt to the Train Station is only €15. We stayed two nights at the start of our Summer tour of Provence and plan to return for the last night before flying back to the UK.

The rooftop bar is great, but getting friends up there was awkward: with the elevator broken, we had to walk down five floors to identify ourselves as guests. The hotel also requires you to leave your room key every time you step outside, even for five minutes, which made us feel they didn't trust guests. We didn't feel welcomed on arrival or prioritized during the stay. Staff could be nice sometimes, but asking questions could feel awkward. The AC was broken one day and the elevator the next, with no compensation for the inconvenience. Our stay could have been much better.
