Grand Hotel

After a long journey, I needed a comfortable, relaxing place for an unplanned one night stay, and the welcome here was just what I needed. Justin, the host, was kind and attentive from the moment I arrived, and really made me feel at home. The hotel is lovely, with a charming feel and the amenities needed for a peaceful stay. Justin’s thoughtfulness made all the difference. I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, memorable stay. Thanks, Justin. I hope to come back someday soon.

We got to the restaurant on bikes at 6.45 pm, on our way to Laval. We had no reservation and it was quite full, but Jocelyn found space for us to have dinner and a place to put our bikes and charge them. Jocelyn was amazing, and Lea and Erwan were very attentive. The fresh food was tasty, beautifully presented and very reasonable in price. We wished we’d booked a room for the night. Cycling by moonlight on to Laval was much easier after our experience at Grand Hotel Mayenne. Thank you all, we’ll return and would definitely recommend it.

We stayed for a two week business trip, and Jocelyn and his team made us feel very welcome. They were always around with recommendations and help making reservations, and it felt like home. We ate dinner at the restaurant several times, and the food was exceptional. The room was comfortable but could do with some modernising. Breakfast wasn’t to my liking.

We booked Le Grand Hotel through Booking.com on 25 Oct 2024 for a stay on 27 May 2025, as one of 13 hotel bookings for a European tour that year. They were all made in date order for our trip. Somehow, the Le Grand booking ended up for the day we made it, 25 Oct, rather than the 27 May date we entered on the form. We got a confirmation saying we’d been charged, but we obviously hadn’t stayed there or intended to stay on 25 October 2024. We didn’t see the email until 26 October, since it was one among many and we had no reason to suspect an issue. We told Le Grand about the error and were confident it wasn’t ours, but they refused a refund and called it a no show. Oddly, they also charged us for two meals we never had. It took weeks to get the meal charges refunded. We can’t say for sure where the booking error happened, at Booking.com or the hotel, but none of the other 12 bookings for our trip had a mistake, so we don’t think it was ours. Le Grand’s refusal to compromise, and the meal charges when nobody was there to eat them, left us feeling they don’t care about customer service and may have management problems. My advice is not to give Le Grand your card details up front or pay anything in advance, since you don’t know what or when you’ll be charged. I feel they can’t be trusted.
