Zenitude Hotel-Residences Bordeaux Aeroport Merignac

The hotel is a little out of the way, but that wasn’t a big problem with a car, or if you want to stay close to the airport. It’s on the older side, though the rooms were roomy, comfortable, and clean. A good hotel.

We booked somewhere else almost as soon as we entered the room. It was incredibly worn, with lots of dirty marks on the floorboards and walls, and a kitchen socket hanging off the wall. Reception said they couldn’t give any kind of refund because they considered the room clean. I’m honestly fine paying just so I don’t have to stay there. The staff had been nice before we checked out, but at checkout we felt they were trying to make us believe the room was clean, and we didn’t appreciate that. The airport is reasonably close, but getting there without a car isn’t very convenient. I gave service 2 stars because the reception staff were nice before checkout.

The buffet breakfast was excellent value, and don’t forget your swimming costume if you want to use the wonderful pool. The hotel is lovely and immaculately clean, and the staff we met couldn’t have been more helpful. Our room was the issue. We were four adults and a small child, and the apartment seemed designed for a couple, with a large double bed in one room and the toilet and bathroom beside it. The other room was meant to be the living room but had another bed, so anyone staying there had to go through the main room to use the toilet at night, disturbing the other couple and child. I’d suggest booking separate rooms if you’re travelling as four adults. I recommend the hotel, provided you book the right room or apartment.

The room was poor: worn out, with an uncomfortable bed, a stained towel, curtains that didn’t really cover the windows, and air conditioning that made a loud noise every minute or so. We were also expected to “clean the room” before leaving, with a vacuum cleaner and mop kit available at reception. It wasn’t clear what we were supposed to do. The reception staff were nice and spoke good English. The location was fine for the airport because we had a hire car to return, but it’s too far to walk. Service and location were adequate overall, but the room experience was poor, which is why my overall rating is low.
