ibis Montargis

A comfortable place for a one-night stop while traveling through the country. The parking garage is tiny, but manageable if you take it slowly. We wouldn't recommend exploring the city. Our first room smelled, but reception had no problem moving us to another one, which was good.

I've stayed here seven times now and like it a lot, even though I'm quite picky. The staff are friendly and very helpful, with impeccable service for the price. The rooms are clean and have what you need for a good night's sleep. The AC in my room wasn't working very well, but it didn't get too hot. Montargis itself is really beautiful, and the flowers right in front of the hotel have a different theme each time.

The shower was the biggest problem. Its floor became dangerously slippery when wet, with no grab rail or curtain to keep water in. I fell and hurt my shoulder, which is still bothering me, and my wife slipped too after I warned her. There were only two towels, so we couldn't have put one down to help if we'd known about the hazard. I reported it at reception, but the response wasn't positive. The floor needs a safer surface. We used showers on a moving ship on the way home without this problem. If my shoulder keeps hurting, I'll see a doctor, and someone else could be injured much more seriously. We had booked well in advance for four people, two adults and children aged 17 and 10. We were first given two rooms on different floors, the first and second, and reception changed that after we asked. The owner later said they were adjoining, but that wasn't what we were initially allocated. There was no food because it was Bastille Day, apparently, and the receptionist couldn't suggest an alternative; a stranger pointed us somewhere. The restaurant was closed, and nobody mentioned a bar or showed us one. The rooms also had no coffee-making facilities.

Breakfast felt like leftovers, and cleanliness was poor in the shared areas as well as in the room. The people working Sunday nights deserve credit, though, so I give them two stars.
