26 Faubourg Hotel

I’d never have picked this hotel myself. Ibis was overbooked and transferred our booking here without asking us, and the stay was dreadful. Our room was beside both reception and the elevator, so it was noisy at all hours and nearly impossible to rest. The staff were unbelievably rude. There was a small coffee machine in the room, and each day we had to beg reception for one pod, thinking it was complimentary. At checkout, the receptionist screamed at us to pay for the three coffees, though nobody had told us they would cost extra. A complete nightmare. Don’t stay here.

The room was very clean, though a little cramped when we tried to keep one 31" and carry-on suitcases open. They changed the sheets and cleaned every day, and the staff were friendly. It’s a few minutes’ walk from the station, and the area felt pretty safe. The local bakeries and morning market are worth a visit.

The location is good and the price is fair for a simple, basic hotel. But during the Fete de Musique, the noise was deafening until 2am, so I wouldn’t stay then. We also had sewer smells in room 43. The jasmine diffuser didn’t cover the odor, and made it seem like they knew about the problem without fixing it. The TV and safe didn’t work either. And why was there no wall between the bathroom and bedroom? What’s that about?

At check-in I asked about checkout and was told it was by noon. But when I reached reception at 10.45 and said I’d be back in 15 minutes, an aggressive receptionist told me to take my luggage out or he’d do it himself. Bags are left in an unlocked room anyone can access. When I asked about that, he told me not to be dramatic because other guests left their bags there and weren’t ‘complaining’. The elevators were always occupied, and the bathroom was unpleasant and full of mold. That checkout experience was incredibly unpleasant. I wouldn’t recommend the place.
