Apartment Cosy Near Gare de L'est ¤paris¤

What shocked me most was finding hundreds of reviews on my last night describing the same or similar incidents. It felt like a pattern, not a random event. They are dangerous. I had €300 tucked away inside my luggage, inside a case and a closed wallet, so I wouldn't need to carry it all outside. Reception also insisted I leave my room key with them whenever I went out, supposedly for security. I used some money each day and didn't notice the first €50 missing right away, but when I went to get more, it had disappeared. You don't forget spending your last banknote. €100 was stolen in total, and none of it was returned. Over the last 24 hours, I reported it to three receptionists because the staff kept changing. They didn't seem surprised or concerned. One said the manager would call, but he never did. Another told me to come back in the morning, but the manager didn't show. I was told one person's job was limited and they wouldn't give their name, and another asked why I hadn't used the safe. They seem to count on foreigners not having time to take legal action or call the police. I tried calling, but couldn't communicate in English. This was a CRIMINAL experience, if this can even be called a hotel.

The organization and professionalism were below expectations, and I wouldn't stay here again or recommend it. The main reason is the lack of security and reliability. I noticed personal belongings missing from my room, which is unacceptable for a place to stay. I reported it to reception and the manager, but they seemed indifferent and showed no real interest in investigating or taking responsibility. There was no serious effort to sort it out or give me a satisfactory explanation. The whole experience left me feeling very unsafe.

The polite, respectful staff were the main positive. Still, I left early and booked somewhere across from Gare de l’Est. Paying more was worth getting away from the discomfort, and I don't recommend Est Hotel. It seems to count on people needing one night near Gare de l’Est and never returning. The room was so small there was barely space to open a suitcase, and the bed was the only workable spot. Thin walls let conversations and showers from next door through from 6am. Water use upstairs or beside us made loud pressure noises in the pipes all night. The bathroom was cramped for anyone over 6ft, with no shelf or counter for toiletries beyond room for a toothbrush and toothpaste. Wardrobe space was minimal, the mattress was firm, and the sheets wouldn't stay fitted. Cleanliness was adequate, not great. The area felt unsafe, especially after dark, with heavy cyclist traffic and little regard for pedestrians. The television sounded poor and several channels didn't work. There was no air conditioning, and even in winter the heating made the room too warm. Opening the window onto the interior courtyard let cigarette smoke in. The hotel also still uses physical keys that guests leave at reception when they go out. The price didn't match the quality. The neighbourhood is challenging, and there are better options nearby. The bathroom and room were uncomfortable, and the noise made it worse.

The bathrooms smelled awful and the beds were dirty. The rooms are tiny, you hear plenty of noise through the walls, and the windows don't shut properly, so we were freezing. Service was very bad, and the neighbourhood felt rough. Est Hotel de Paris is a shame. I wouldn't recommend staying there under any circumstances.
