I’ve stayed here four times because I wanted to love it, but after this visit I don’t think I’ll return. The location is great, the rooms look modern, and some have lovely views. I also like the unusual minibar idea, even though mine felt a bit dirty this time. The service really let the place down. The concierge offered very basic help and didn’t seem particularly knowledgeable. Nobody gave us a warm goodbye, and I had to load my own bags into the cab. I called down about a problem with the kettle and no one came. In summer, the air conditioning doesn’t work, so I wouldn’t stay here then. The rooms are starting to look worn, with scuffs on the walls and an old carpet. They seem to be cutting corners too: the hotel’s own bottled water was barely sparkling, and breakfast was extremely basic for a GOURMAND hotel. They used to have a great breakfast chef and the best French toast I’d had. Now I skip breakfast altogether. At $1,000 USD for one night, the service and finish felt more like a four-star hotel. They also contacted me before my visit to ask me to prepay with a card other than Amex. That felt very unprofessional for a five-star place.

We booked a superior room for three nights and were upgraded to a suite overlooking the madeleine church. The hotel and rooms have been freshly renovated, and everything looked clean and appealing. The staff were really friendly and went out of their way to help. They found us reservations at top-class restaurants each day. Breakfast is made fresh to order from an à la carte menu, with whatever you choose. We had a great stay.

We were left waiting in the lobby with a child who was already past bedtime while housekeeping finished the sofa bed. I’d asked for it when we checked in at 12:30 pm, but nothing was done until 9:30 pm, and then we waited another 15 minutes. When I complained, customer service said turndown runs from 6 to 10 pm, so this was “within timeframe.” They didn’t apologize at all. A hotel shouldn’t get to decide when its guests go to sleep. The response was rigid and indifferent, nowhere near the service expected at a five-star hotel. If you’re travelling with kids or expect a basic request to be handled with reasonable care, stay somewhere else. Five-star prices for one-star service.

We asked for a sofa bed at check-in around 12:30 pm, but when we got back at 9:30 that evening, a staff member was still unfolding it. My son was already well past bedtime, so we had to wait 20 minutes in the lobby. The late turndown was bad enough, and the staff member didn’t replenish any of the room amenities either, which made the service feel careless and pointless. We raised the problem with the front desk when checking out and got no apology. For a hotel charging five-star rates, this was unacceptable. Save your money and stay elsewhere. It didn’t deliver the experience its price or reputation suggests.

The à la carte breakfast downstairs was fantastic and felt like a real treat. My Deluxe room was spacious, with little balconies where I could step out and see the Paris skyline, including the top of the Eiffel Tower. The bathroom was beautiful, and the room had all the modern amenities. The minibar was a highlight: it was stocked with Fauchon-branded snacks to enjoy, and they replenished them every day. I’d never seen that before. The hotel is a treasure in central Paris, right beside Eglise de la Madeleine and a block from Place de la Concorde. My schedule was too busy to try the other amenities, but I hope to come back.
