Hotel Ernest

There’s no lift, so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues. It’s a classic Paris walk-up, with just a few rooms per floor. My room was cozy and had a balcony I hadn’t expected. It was a great size for a solo traveler, or for a couple wanting a comfortable place to crash. The hotel has loads of charming, quirky details and seems to have been refurbished recently. Whoever designed those little touches did a great job. Fantastic stay!

The recent room renovation was done to a good standard, and I slept comfortably. But the services felt too limited for a three-star hotel. There’s no lift, fridge, or safe, and heating is only through the AC. The breakfast room is tiny and there isn’t much to choose from. My breakfast was also frustrating. The receptionist spent the entire 30 minutes I was there having a loud personal conversation. When I pointed out that my table had no cups, she rudely told me to take one from the next table. I felt like I was bothering her with a silly request. I don’t usually dismantle breakfast tables without asking! It’s OK if you just need somewhere to sleep, have no mobility or disability issues, and don’t mind a poor breakfast experience. Keep your expectations low.

The metro is right around the corner, so getting around the city is easy. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, and the walk to the central train station takes about 15 minutes, making it easy to get to and from CGD. The main thing to know is that it’s all stairs. We got a first-floor room, but carrying lots of bags upstairs could be annoying.

Really good value, with delicious food options within a block. The location is excellent, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Clean, modern rooms with tasteful furnishings and decor.
