Hotel du Jeu de Paume

The building is pretty and the location is obviously great, and the staff were kind. Still, we were very disappointed. The hotel used low quality materials, and it shows. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear everything in the next room, from conversations to intimate bathroom sounds. Breakfast isn’t worth paying for, either. There are many lovely places just 50 meters away.

The family rooms are spacious, and the lobby feels charming and cosy. We loved walking around the island and finding local shops and restaurants. The neighborhood is quiet but right near Notre Dame and other major tourist sights. Excellent location, and we highly recommend it.

The staff were gracious and helped us arrange dinner reservations. Breakfast was nice, and there was plenty of hot water, so we had a fine stay overall. The hotel is lovely and old, in a quiet spot that’s also remarkably central. We stayed four nights in Superior Double Room 3, just off the breakfast room, and it needs some attention. There was water damage in the shower area, the makeup mirror didn’t work, and the shelving unit had no shelves, as shown in the photos. The room had instant coffee packets instead of the ubiquitous Nespresso machine, no mini fridge, and the in room book said outside alcohol was absolutely prohibited. Some details didn’t feel in line with a four star rating.

The place helped save my trip when I was ill and badly needed rest. It had just the right mix of French charm and modern touches, and I’d absolutely return. I didn’t get to explore the hotel or Salle de Pleume as much as I’d hoped, but the staff were friendly, courteous, and lovely. The woman at reception did everything she could to make me comfortable. When I didn’t have the right change for the city tax, she said I could take care of it with her at checkout. I also didn’t have an EU converter, and she went out of her way to lend me two, which gave me peace of mind and let me use my devices. When I asked to stay another night, she sorted it out without any trouble. The room was gorgeous and sparkling clean, with a nice view of the street and Parisian buildings. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, and the shower was warm and roomy. There was even a single pull out bed inside a chair if needed. Getting there from the Versailles train station and checking out were both effortless. There were lots of signs outside the station pointing to the hotel, which made it seem established and well known. It’s close to the city center and train station, so getting around and picking up food or groceries was easy. If you want a place where you can switch off in a foreign country, I’d suggest Hotel de jeu de pleume. I can’t recommend the staff enough, and I’ll be back very soon.
