Hôtel Exsel Créolia

We only stayed one night because Air Mauritius cancelled a flight. The staff were really helpful, breakfast was nice, and the room was pleasant with a comfy bed. I can’t say much about the location, except that the hotel is on a hill and I could see the ocean and its swimming pool from my room.

We had to switch rooms as soon as we got there because the first one smelled awful, like sewer. It’s a thematic place, and breakfast is good, although the pastries are usually dry. The pool isn’t heated, and there are only about 6-9 lounge chairs beside it.

The rooms are pleasant and the shower is great, but the WiFi is terrible outside the lobby and terrace. Some staff are really friendly and helpful, while others seem unfriendly and eager to get rid of you. The hotel is far from everything, with no restaurants or supermarkets nearby. The shuttle to the airport and city centre is handy, but it’s often late and only runs from 9 to 5, which is a short window. The pool looks lovely but is super cold, only 25 degrees, and even in 30-degree weather I couldn’t stay in it long. It’s not a terrible place, but I expected more from Mercure.

The view is fantastic and the staff are friendly and helpful, but the rooms are worn and badly need some TLC. Parking is a struggle every time. Breakfast and the restaurant menu are average and could be improved, and I’ve never used a smaller shower. The gym is well equipped, though they don’t provide towels.
