It got us through three nights in Strasbourg during Christmas season, but I wouldn’t stay here again. In my opinion, this is slightly better than a hostel, not a four-star hotel. Book early if you can, so you don’t end up paying $300+ a night for a low-end place. The best part is the location. It’s about a five-minute walk from the train station, handy with large or heavy luggage and as a base for visiting nearby cities. We took an easy day trip to Colmar. A couple of the main Christmas markets were also a 10-15 minute walk away. The room was a decent size, though we didn’t use the kitchen area. Sleeping wasn’t comfortable. The bed was very hard, there was just one flat pillow per person, and the thin bath towels, one per person, felt almost threadbare and cheap. The room smelled odd, perhaps why housekeeping opened the windows while we were out. It’s on a busy road near the station, so it’s loud, and the thin walls, pipes, and room made strange noises. Reception closes around 9/10pm, so don’t forget your key or you’ll be locked out. The room keys are actual keys, and you have to lock the door both when leaving and from inside when you return.

It felt outdated, poorly maintained, and overpriced. The toilet had no exhaust fan, and there was no deodorant or aerosol spray. No slippers, toiletries, or tissue box were provided. The smoke detector wasn’t working, and I didn’t see a fire extinguisher. There was no emergency evacuation plan behind the main door, which was locked, and there was no receptionist after 10pm. The kitchen appliances had no instructions. The hotel had one washing machine and dryer for everyone, closed at 9pm, and no detergent available to buy.

We had a good stay overall. The room was nice and had all the kitchen equipment, though cleaning products were missing and could be bought at reception. The pillows were a bit too thick. I asked if they had smaller ones, but we were given another pair of the same kind. It wasn’t a big deal. There’s a secure underground car park, but arriving on a motorcycle was awkward: we had to check in before getting the garage key, and there’s nowhere outside the hotel to park temporarily. The hotel also has a swimming pool, while the sauna costs extra.

One of the better places I stayed in Europe. The pool was nice, the in-room kitchen was great, and the beds were comfortable enough. Bring soap if you plan to use the kitchen. It’s close to lots of sights.

I’ve stayed here twice, and the place really needs renovation and maintenance. The kitchen gear is in very poor shape: the kettle was covered in limescale, and the coffee machine didn’t work at all. I hope they take these problems more seriously. This visit was disappointing, and I’ll think twice before coming back.
