Au Cerf d'Or

I spent New Year's Eve 2025-2026 here with my wife and our one-year-old daughter. When we arrived, I found the bathroom toilet in a deplorable, unsanitary state. I'd never seen anything like it. I asked the staff several times, including the manager, to take care of it, but in the end I had to clean it myself. Total madness. A terrible experience. Never again!

Even with temperatures above 35 degrees, the air conditioning worked really well. The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel is in a great spot, quiet and only a few minutes' walk from the city centre. I stayed here in summer and would stay again.

The extra-charge amenities and the weak Wi-Fi kept this from earning another star. I also found the manager indifferent and, at times, rude. It brought back memories of how foreigners were treated in France over 40 years ago, when I visited as a teenager in the 70s. Maybe you can't choose your staff in a family-run hotel. It wasn't a bad hotel, but I wish management showed more care for international guests.

The place felt dated and unpleasant, with an old smell and signs of poor maintenance. During plenary sessions, prices rise to three times the usual rate, yet the service toward the guests who help keep the hotel going, many of them tired professionals in Strasbourg for work, was dismissive and disrespectful. Staff were shockingly rude: when I asked for an iron, they refused. After I politely pressed the matter, they told my roommate, rather than speaking to me, that they would no longer receive me. Another time, someone I believe was the owner shouted at me just for ringing the reception bell when nobody was there. There was no basic courtesy or hospitality.
