Carayou Hôtel & Spa

The ferry from the marina to Fort de France is only a 15-20 minute ride, and the boat is within walking distance. Very convenient. It's a bit pricey, though I guess everywhere around here costs a bit more. We got a newly renovated room with a sea view. We paid for it, so maybe it wasn't luck, but it looked like the renovation had just been finished. The resort's location is marvelous, with a small private beach, two pool areas, and a nice atmosphere. The place is a little old, though it looks like they're working on it. I also thought the 20 euro deposit for each beach towel was unnecessary for hotel guests. Breakfast was just okay. The dining area is spacious and has a sea view, and they serve omelettes.

We had some electricity trouble during our stay, and the WiFi kept dropping out. The hotel's rooms are getting old inside, though the shower was one of the best we've had, with strong pressure and plenty of hot water. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the hotel is in a great spot. Our top-floor room looked out over the beach and sea. Breakfast was good, with lots of local fruit. There are two nice pools and a small beach at the hotel, plus some beautiful beaches just a few minutes' walk away.

The buffet was a highlight for us. We had full board and found the food really good, with plenty of choices and tasty dishes. The fruit each day was fresh and very sweet, especially the watermelons, pineapples, and oranges. We stayed a week and were happy with the hotel overall. It's well located, with a small private beach where little waves come in, so keep an eye on the kids. The room was just okay, nothing fancy, and the furniture was old and very used. Still, the daily cleaning was done well, so we didn't find sand left behind. The little port next door is handy. You can catch the shuttle to Fort de France there, and excursions are available too. It's no more than a ten-minute walk.

The food was a basic buffet. Breakfast was made in bulk and left to go cold and stodgy, and the bacon looked awful. The all-inclusive drinks selection was very limited. The local bars and restaurants were much better. I stayed four nights in June 2023. The rooms need updating, and there's no fridge or coffee setup. The air conditioning is centrally controlled, so you can only adjust the fan speed. The receptionist at check-in was no help at all. I speak basic French, but couldn't get help understanding the check-in process. The pool was good for relaxing, but one gate was closed, so getting to the bar meant walking all the way around and up the stairs past the restaurant. TUI also puts on entertainment, but it was entirely in French, so we couldn't follow it.
