Best Western Plus Hôtel Le Roof

After trying four times to get to Le Roof, we finally made it, and it met all our expectations. The location, comfort, service and food were first class, and I celebrated my 91st birthday in style. A broader choice of light lunches or snacks at the bar would have been welcome, but I can highly recommend Le Roof.

Really good, in a lovely location, and the staff were very friendly. Their service basics could use some work, though, as they didn’t seem to have come from French hotel schools.

We came in June for a wedding and were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked it. The setting is breathtaking, the grounds are beautiful, the rooms are spacious, and the staff are all very nice. It’s a fairly small hotel with more of a bed-and-breakfast feel, which suited us. Breakfast was pretty decent too. For us, it’s the best place to stay in Vannes!

The hotel has a fantastic view, and the cuisine is very good, but there are many things that need improvement. We drove over 1,000 km from Switzerland for a ten-day stay at Le Roof. Both rooms we booked were very small: room 111 faced the lift, and room 125 smelled so awful that we had to move after two days because no other room was available sooner. There’s no air conditioning anywhere in the hotel, so keep the weather in mind. The hotel staff don’t wear name badges either. The bar and restaurant staff were unfriendly and seemed unmotivated, apart from the two receptionists, one a friendly, attractive blonde woman who speaks good English and the other a friendly young woman, and a young man who serves in the Brasserie and lives at the hotel. The “Maitre d‘hotel” Joris speaks good English but was extremely unwelcoming and arrogant, especially to foreigners. We only ate at the restaurant and Brasserie four times during our ten days because of his treatment. Breakfast wasn’t included in the room price and cost 14 Euro per person. It was the same every morning, with no fresh-pressed juice available or offered, though even Ibis hotels have it now. Friendly, equal treatment of all guests could have made a real difference, but that was missing.
