Hôtel Le Bretagne

The hotel is in a good location, and the charming ornamental decor came with a view of the castle rampart. But at €100 a night, the overall experience didn’t feel worth the price. None of the issues alone was huge, yet together they left us feeling like unwanted house guests instead of paying customers. After one night, we gave up the second night we’d booked and moved elsewhere. We arrived on Saturday morning for a wedding that afternoon and asked about checking in before 3pm. The answer was an emphatic no. When we asked if there was somewhere my wife could get ready, we were told she could use the hallway mirror and toilet. Our standard room was very small, as was the bathroom. It seemed like a larger room had been split in two. The room was only a little wider than the narrow 160cm double bed, though there was space to walk around it. The bathroom had a shower and toilet, with room for one person to get ready. The adjustable shower head was broken and wouldn’t stay in place, though it worked if held by hand. The cup in the room was cracked, and we couldn’t find an iron for our clothes. The doors don’t lock themselves, so you have to check them when you leave and at night if that matters to you. It was an unusually hot, humid summer day. The rooms don’t have air conditioning, which on its own wasn’t an issue, but when we asked for a fan we were told, “we do not have fans for the standard rooms.” We left for the wedding covered in sweat.

The staff were super professional and helped us track down our towed car, so watch the signs! The hotel was clean and cozy, and from the window we could see the big wall. It’s close to a supermarket, shops, the entrance to the old walled city and the tourist area. Breakfast was superb, don’t miss it. We’ll be back.

We slept so well in our comfortable room, it was the best night’s sleep of the whole trip. The staff were friendly and really helpful, thank you! Red riding hood and Harry potter enjoyed their stay too ;)

Breakfast was delicious, and the service and location were both good. It’s a really charming hotel. The smaller rooms cost less and have plenty of storage and closets.
