We booked a table for the evening meal, and it was ready promptly even though the bar was quite busy. The food was very good, with several vegetarian options, and there was a nice selection of beers and wines. Breakfast was good too, with cold items to serve yourself and a choice of cooked dishes from the menu. The service throughout was friendly and welcoming. We got a very good last-minute deal for one night, including bed, breakfast and dinner. Our room was spacious and comfortable; the bathroom was compact but recently refurbished and perfectly adequate. Since the place is on the high street and has no on-site parking, allow about £15 for town centre parking. We had a pleasant stay and would use it again.

We only came in for a meal, not an overnight stay. It was busy, but the staff quickly found us a table and cleaned it for us. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and the food came promptly and tasted great. Lovely atmosphere too, we’d come back when we’re nearby.

The staff were friendly and attentive, and our one evening meal was fine. The rooms were cosy, quiet and perfectly okay. Breakfast was fine too, though the setup changed between the two days. On the first morning we could make tea and toast ourselves; on the second there was no equipment out, so we had to order it from the kitchen. My wife asked for a toasted currant tea cake and got half of one. The bar was the main disappointment. It was January and the area was very cold, with the open fires left unlit. A fire would have made the pub feel much cosier and more welcoming. It was a pleasant stay, but I can’t give it more than four stars.

A friend and I came in for food after a mountain hike. We didn’t stay, so I can’t comment on the rooms. The gammon with egg, chips, pineapple and salad was amazing, and we had onion rings on the side. The staff were really friendly and the Guinness was good too.

The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere, the portions were generous, and the prices were competitive. Our room was clean and cosy, and the service was first rate. Josh took great care of us from the moment we arrived. He was friendly and professional, attentive without hovering, and always willing to help. If you miss the days when service standards mattered, this is the place to go. The Inn Collection Group should hold on to Josh, he’s a huge asset!
