Dave was a lovely host and knew the area well. The beds were super comfy, and those big breakfasts were a real treat. The place is easy to reach from the train station and just a short way from the little high street.

The room was spotless, even in the corners and under the bed, which we dachshund owners notice straight away. It felt clean and safe for our dogs, and it’s great to find a place that welcomes them. My younger dog was fascinated by the full-length mirror since we don’t have one at home. The guesthouse is a beautiful old building with high ceilings, and the rooms were quiet, without noise from the rest of the house. Parking was easy to find on the street, and it’s a short walk to both the town centre and train station. We found the place very comfortable, with a wonderfully soft duvet cover. The host was welcoming and helpful. I wish I’d booked breakfast, but never mind. I’d definitely recommend staying here and would happily come back.

A cracking breakfast, with lovely coffee, proper bread for toast, and delicious veggie sausages. The host was kind, the bed comfy, and the guest house spotlessly clean and peaceful. I really enjoyed my stay and can’t rate it highly enough. Looking forward to coming back to The Old Rectory. Thank you.

We were heading from the Scottish islands down to London and this was an ideal place to split up the drive. It’s dog friendly, too. The place was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was lovely. Dave was friendly, easygoing and happy to help.

Nightmare! The front garden was full of rubbish when we arrived, and the view from the room was of what looked like a tip. We went in anyway and were shown to a very tired-looking room. The bed was clean, though the bedding had clearly seen better days. The bathroom radiator was badly rusted. Since it was a last-minute booking for just one night, we stayed. The rules said dogs weren’t allowed downstairs, which wasn’t a problem for us. Early the next morning, I asked if we could get a takeaway bacon sandwich because I didn’t want to leave my anxious dog alone to bark and disturb the other residents. I got a grumpy “we don't normally do that,” followed by the owner turning away and muttering, “well you shouldn't of brought the dog then.” Rude. We left without breakfast. There was no need to speak to us like that. Whoever rated this place four stars must have been blind. It didn’t deserve any stars at all.
