The street noise was horrendous. Six of us stayed over the weekend and barely slept because of people passing by. I know the old windows aren't the owners' fault, but surely something could be done to cut down the noise. The house itself was beautiful, with lovely decor, though the cleanliness didn't meet a five-star standard.
It was easy to pop out for a quick walk to nearby coffee shops as the city got going, including Fat Boys and the Columbia Company. Once we felt up to it, the attractions were an easy stroll too. The house has lots of character, comfortable beds and plenty of room, which worked perfectly for the family while we got through jet lag.
The location worked very well, and the house was comfortable and as advertised, suitable for families or groups. Cleanliness was okay, though the previous group may have left something dirty or damaged. Our sink was broken and the flush wasn't working, but management quickly sent a handyman who fixed both. I'd suggest a deep clean or maintenance about once a week, depending on the guests. We weren't given a clear explanation of how rubbish was handled. It was also a bit difficult to get in touch with management, and replies were slow, so we spent parts of our week waiting for updates.
We spent the long Easter weekend at Founders House as a group of 9. It's right in central Bath, close to the main sights, with the Roman Baths and Thermae Spa about a 5-minute walk away. The house was clean and had the amenities we needed, including WiFi and a dishwasher. Our host answered questions quickly and helpfully, let us drop off our bags a few hours before check-in, and was flexible on checkout morning. We'd highly recommend both the host and the property.
The vaulted cellar off the kitchen was a brilliant surprise, and the teenagers loved discovering it. We were after a beautiful old property for 10 people from several generations to spend Christmas somewhere picturesque and explore the area. It was just what we hoped for, and the hosts even put up a lovely Christmas tree. The managing company replied promptly and fully to our questions and sent useful updates right up to arrival. Mary, the housekeeper, kindly let us in an hour early since our journey went better than expected. As the organiser, I couldn't have asked for more at any stage. A well deserved 5 stars.
