We stayed one night at the Lyndene Hotel, and based on our experience I can’t recommend it. We couldn’t book directly, so we paid £145 for a room priced at £85. The room was clean but dated and very small. It got unbearably hot, and with no fans provided, we had a very uncomfortable night’s sleep. We had to leave the window open, and outside noise carried on past 3 am, even on a midweek visit. We didn’t eat at the hotel, so I can’t comment on the food. The bar felt like stepping back into the 80s, although the drinks were reasonably priced. The staff were all friendly. We arrived early, and they let us check in before the room was ready so we could park the car at no extra cost. The location is great, about equidistant between The Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Tower. If you want a restful night’s sleep, this isn’t the place.

The food was a real highlight, with generous traditional portions, quality ingredients, plenty of choice and attentive restaurant staff. Our room was clean and well kept, and the beds were comfortable. The Lyndene has a very traditional Blackpool feel, with festive decorations everywhere. It may not be posh, but the atmosphere and evening entertainment are hard to beat. There was great music, a lively crowd and efficient bar staff. Everyone at reception was welcoming and helpful, and although we arrived early, we could use the facilities straight away. We’ve already booked another short break because it’s such good value.

The lift stopped working during my stay, and although reception told me twice it would be reset, it stayed out of service. I was left on the second floor without independent access and couldn’t move around the hotel safely as a wheelchair user. Getting to my room also meant struggling through a busy public lounge, which was humiliating and distressing. I have Friedreich's ataxia, so wheelchair access is essential for me. I contacted the hotel four weeks before the stay to check whether it could meet my needs. They got in touch again the day before I arrived, and I confirmed that I needed an accessible room. Based on those conversations, I believed the hotel was suitable. Instead, there were far more stairs than I had been led to expect. Even though I’d told them in advance that I use a wheelchair, I was told it couldn’t go in the lift because it was considered a hazard. My partner had to help me up the stairs, causing considerable pain and discomfort. Hotels have responsibilities towards disabled guests. I’d taken reasonable steps to check that my needs could be met, but the accommodation and access arrangements didn’t match what I’d been assured. I’m grateful to Booking.com for stepping in and moving me to another hotel that was genuinely accessible. Without their help, I’d have been left in an extremely difficult situation. I’d urge wheelchair users and anyone with significant mobility impairments to ask very detailed questions about access before booking this property.

The hotel is a bit maze-like, but that didn’t spoil the stay. My room was spacious, tidy and clean, and I was comfortable there. Breakfast was another bright spot, with attentive staff and fantastic service. Everyone I met was so helpful and friendly, from the welcoming team at reception onwards. I had a brilliant stay from start to finish and would definitely recommend it.

The cabaret was good, though too loud for us. On Friday night the noise carried up to our second-floor room until midnight, so I’d bring earplugs next time. A quiet lounge where people could just have a drink and a chat would be useful. Our small double with a sea view was very nice, and the shower had great pressure. Breakfast was plentiful and very good. We didn’t try dinner. The hotel itself was lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed our few days. I’d stay again.
