Northern pearl

All three rooms we booked were filthy and horrible. There was puke on the beds, and the beds, carpets and walls were covered in who knows what. At check-in it was an absolute nightmare, and when my mother challenged a staff member and asked for a refund, he assaulted her. It's cheap, but I wouldn't recommend anyone stay there, and I wouldn't even let my dogs stay. It felt like a biohazard. I wouldn't wish that experience on my worst enemy. If I could give zero stars, I would.

A warm, spotless room with comfortable beds and pleasant decor. The host made us feel very welcome, and the location was great.

We couldn't stay here because of a power cut, but the owners were really accommodating. They helped us call Booking.com, took us to their sister hotel to check in there, and gave us complimentary drinks for the inconvenience. Our refund was processed.

My friend was staying down the hall, and the door to his room came off when he got there. They had to call a carpenter to put the hinges back on. In my room, the door looked as if it had been kicked in before, and there was a large crack in the wall with plaster falling away. I've got photos of the electrical problems and plasterwork. When I came back around nine, the electricity kept flashing on and off because of poor electrical work in the property. It took a while to fix, so we sat in the dark. There was no TV either, since it used the internet and had no antenna. I had to bang my door hard to shut it, which could have disturbed the neighbours. A badly made extension lead ran around the room, but didn't work. Only one socket worked, with a five-way adapter serving the kettle and TV. We had no apology in the morning. We hated our stay on the 28th and 29th of March. On arrival at 3 p.m. to drop off our cases, everything had looked okay.
