Dartbridge Inn Buckfastleigh by Greene King Inns

The dining space was great, and our Sunday roast arrived quickly. Portions, quality and price were all okay, but a few little improvements could make the meal much better. The cauliflower cheese missed the mark, the peas were hard, the potatoes oily and the gravy bland. Those all seem like easy things to fix with a bit more care.

The Sticky Toffee Pudding was one of the best I’ve ever had, honestly. Breakfast was excellent too, freshly cooked by Wil, and Nicole was so friendly and attentive that I felt welcome the whole time. I was here for a work trip and found the place easy to reach. The welcome was warm, the room was clean and comfortable, and the property seemed well cared for. There isn’t a huge menu, but the food was very good, which I prefer to too many choices. I had a really pleasant stay and would gladly come back or recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

We won’t be meeting at the Dartbridge inn again. Four of us have been regulars, using it as a halfway point for our two couples, but we’ll have to find somewhere else. It’s a shame, but the place has gone downhill. The portions were tiny for the prices, and even the waiter seemed embarrassed by what he was serving. He apologised when we raised it. The meals weren’t hot and didn’t taste very good either. We asked for extra custard and were charged 50p for around 50 ml. A very poor visit.

There were ten of us, with a baby and a three-year-old, and everyone cleared their plates. Food came out promptly and at a good temperature, and the staff kept an eye on us. We had roasts, burgers, kids’ pasta and tart; a few of us ordered dessert, and my sticky coffee was delightful. I’ll definitely be back :)
