Felix looked after us really well, and we’d happily go back for another meal at The Richmond arms. We picked it because it was close to the campground where we were staying, and it turned out to be a very nice dining experience. The starters included hummus with sweet onion chutney, garlic bread, and bread with oil and balsamic. The hummus was outstanding, the garlic bread lovely, and the soft bread with oil was delicious. A shallow dish would have made the oil and balsamic easier to dip into. For mains we had a burger, an 8oz steak and beer battered fish and chips. The burger was lovely, the steak was cooked medium as requested, and the fish with triple cooked chips was very nice without excess oil. A few more chips would have been welcome.

We stopped in for dinner while staying nearby. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and nice design, and the food was truly excellent. I’ve eaten at some very fancy places in London, and this meal was better than some of them. Would highly recommend.

The pub has a nicely decorated interior, a good range of drinks on tap and great food. It can get very busy on Sundays and holidays, and parking is a bit tricky, but otherwise it’s fantastic.

All four of us loved what we ordered, and the menu has plenty of choice. I had the Asian Style Crispy Beef Salad, which was outstanding. I even asked the chef for the recipe, and after trying it at home I can say it’s almost as delicious. The service was superb, and the room was calm enough to chat at a normal volume. Parking was easy, with nice wide spaces. The Richmond Arms is a gem in West Ashling, well worth the drive through those twisty country lanes. Highly, highly recommend.
