We arrived at 6pm on Friday for a family birthday with our 11-month-old baby and found the house filthy. It hadn't been cleaned after the previous guests: every bed had dirty sheets, used towels were left everywhere, the floors and kitchen were dirty, the bins were full, and empty beer bottles were in the rooms. We were disgusted and couldn't get anyone on the phone to help. We had to leave straight away for a surprise party, then came back at 9pm and stripped all the beds. Luckily I found some sheets and made the beds myself. For the whole weekend, we had only two clean towels for four adults and a baby. We finally got someone on the phone Monday morning, but the number we'd been given for the host was actually for a random realtor in the village who had nothing to do with the property. Booking.com eventually replied that they couldn't reach an agreement with the accommodation about a refund or compensation. Absolutely disgusting. Do not stay here!

There are two double bedrooms, one on the first floor and one on the second, along with a twin room and shower room upstairs. The first floor also has a bathroom. Downstairs, there's a through lounge and dining room, a small galley kitchen and a loo. The cottage is very pleasant, has a lovely enclosed garden at the back, and is just a short stroll from the town centre.

A very nice cottage and a lovely stay.

The location is the only reason I’m giving Victoria cottage one star. The cottage has potential, but the house needs a thorough clean, repairs and more kitchen supplies. Ants were all over the kitchen, and there weren’t enough of basic items for six guests. The gate was hanging from one hinge when we arrived. Inside, the mirror above the log burner was fire damaged, so we didn’t use the burner even though the house was freezing. It looked unsafe and needed fixing or replacing. Heating was controlled remotely by the owner and stayed at its lowest setting, despite the cold outside. There was just one very dirty spare blanket for the whole house. No hairdryer or vacuum, and the ironing board was broken. The upstairs hadn’t been vacuumed when we got there, probably because there was no hoover. The outside space also doesn’t really work for dogs: it’s a tiny yard and a small garden with an alleyway between them.
